Green Trends family salon

The salon is spacious, the interiors, well designed, with a spa room, (the city finally has an affordable spa in a room that will not make you claustrophobic) a steam bath, and also a Nail Art Bar. Pick the design from the catalogue and do up your nails with glitter and stones. While the men's and women's sections have been conveniently separated, with the latter on the first floor, there is a special area reserved for kids. It's in a land where it snows chocolate, with little characters skiing down choco-capped peaks.

And it's not just chocolate, Green Trends offers a Pinacolada pedicure too for quite a reasonable price of Rs. 250. Pineapple and coconut apparently work as natural cuticle softeners. With so much pollution that your skin has to deal with, you could try an Oxygen Facial for Rs. 2,000, and have oxygen mist sprayed and oxygen enriched cream massaged into your tired skin.

Their signature services include chocolate pedicures, strawberry face spa, baby corn eye treatment, and pina colada pedicures. This is along with regular services such as hair-styling, customized bridal packages

Wraps and Rolls

Wraps & Rolls is a concept originated around 4 years ago. The idea was named 'Wraps & Rolls'. The concept has been graciously accepted by the people and today Wraps & Rolls stands as an icon for healthy kiosk food.

The raw material for the wraps comes from a central kitchen. All the kiosk staff do is prepare the skewers, cook a 100-gram filling over flaming coals, slide it into a freshly prepared whole wheat rumali roti, toss in the garnish and finely sliced vegetables, and roll. In less than five minutes, the wrap is ready to eat! Their bestsellers here: the paneer and chicken options and the falafel.

Phone: 0422 - 2210185

Since Kongunad cuisine does not involve marinating the raw meat, the taste is indeed quite unique. The blend of the meat balls with flavoured Indian spices, eggs and bread crumbs, makes this dish extremely appetising.

Garnished with tomatoes, onion rings and fried curry leaves, it is served with mint chutney, enhancing the palate even further.

Bottomline: Gives you a delightful hint of Kongunadu cuisine

Malaysian Cuisine in Coimbatore

shivanjali cafe

Taste Malaysian cuisine, right here in Coimbatore. Before you get all excited, let me tell you it is pure vegetarian Malaysian food.Clean, well lit and with splashes of colour from rows of multicoloured bowls and plates, the Shivanjali café is Spartan but warm and welcoming.
A healthy start

Every one who has read Fit for Life should know that eating fruits and vegetables at the start of one’s meal is the thing to do.

And, with the spicy peanut sauce (we ordered two refills) the vegetables were polished off before we could say, Kuala Lumpur!

The next course is called Nasi Lemak. It is rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves (screwpine leaves), and served with vegetables. The ingredients that go into Malaysian cuisine are similar to Thai fare with galangal, lemon grass, etc. And, Uma is now growing them right here. So, everything is garden fresh. We then try Curry Laksa that is vegetables, noodles and coconut curry that is eaten with steamed rice. Hot, tasty and filling, it is a complete meal. The rates are more than reasonable.

An added dimension is that the restaurant contributes towards empowering women. Most of those employed here have had difficult lives and the work here has been a source of great strength to them. It is always nice to be a part of any humanitarian movement, and when you eat here, you are helping a good cause.

Talking of things good - the desserts. The one we tried was called Bubur Chacha, a concoction of sago, palm sugar, coconut milk and, here is the interesting bit, cubes of sweet potato. We have it cold and refreshing, though you could also have it piping hot.

The café also parcels your food and caters for private parties. Closed on Mondays, it is located at No 3 New Thillai Nagar, PN Pudur. For details call 0422-2438255/9894750777.
